A sad family novel with a glimmer of hope for a brighter future. For me, it’s a 3 out of 5. You won’t find emotional upheavals, wild struggles of the characters, or unexpected endings here. It’s a calm story about a couple who remain quiet both in joy and in sorrow. Civilized, peaceful, and almost predictable. If you’re a fan of such novels, you’ll likely enjoy it. It reads easily, quickly, and pleasantly.
